Hey guys! I’m Ashley Gray Duru, artistic director at Salon Emage Day Spa, and also Sarah and Michelle’s hairstylist. I’m here today to talk hair. I love getting together with the girls during our hair “dates” and talking trends. Sarah and Michelle are some of my more fashion forward clients who love trying new things – as long as it’s blonde of course ;). Their good looks and style inspire me to push the envelope with their do’s And keep their locks right on trend. Here are some trends I’m loving right now…
Baliage baliage and more baliage!!! Hair painting is my favorite way to lighten hair these days. Trade in your solid ombré for a softer look using baliage this season. It gives such a soft and natural look replicating that of a child’s hair or a sun kissed look. I love using this technique on my brunettes, dark blondes, color virgins, or when breaking up a solid ombré. You can achieve anything from sun kissed- to a heavy saturated look depending on how heavy your stylist paints. It is 100 custom!

All Over Blonde: When it comes to blonde hair, (my favorite) here’s what we are seeing this season. To me there’s nothing better than a bright bold blonde bombshell aka Sarah’s hair! I love the softness that an all over blonde gives. Try adding some cool tones, greys, lavendars, metallics to add an edge and to achieve that icy wintry blonde. Here’s some inspiration:

Rooted Blonde: If that’s too high maintenence or not right for your skin tone- no problem. Try a “rooted” blonde or a heavy baliage blonde like Michelle. This look incorporates a darker or natural base color which is not only more flattering on some, but also much easier to upkeep. The key is to make it look natural and seemless- no streaky highlights! Ditch the stripes and the solid ombré and try something like this:

The Lob: As far as the cut of the season- the long bob aka the “lob” has taken over. Try a blunt sleek clavicle bone skimming bob or a textured piecy shoulder length bob.

Soft Waves: And styling is all about texture these days- soft waves, curls, and messy looks are all the rage. Try using a wand or flat iron to achieve these looks. Finishing any hairstyle with a texture spray to give it a lived in look is the way to go.

Oribe dry texturizing spray – Smells amazing, a cross between dry shampoo and texture spray that adds fullness and a “grit” to your hair. Sarah has this and uses it daily.
Unite texturiza spray– Similar to oribe adds extreme volume/fullness and texture to normally soft limp hair.
Unite tricky spray – A cross between wax and hairspray, great for piecing hair. Sarah is also a huge fan of this product to give her “lob” separation.
Hope you enjoyed these suggestions and tips! Happy new year and happy healthy hair!
xoxo
