5 Favorite Things: Fall Edition

Summer has gone as quickly as it arrived. While we had an amazing and impactful summer, we can’t help looking forward to a relaxing, laid-back fall. There is just so much to love about these autumn days; the crisp weather, Halloween treats, outdoor activities and of course a chance to show off our cozy sweaters and layered looks.

In no particular order, here are the five fall things Sarah and I are most excited about this year:

1. VA Wineries

Nothing beats fall in Virginia—changing leaves, hayrides, apple picking and, of course, Virginia wine!  Whenever we can, we escape the city and head out to the country for a little R&R and to sample the many local wineries. The wine is delicious and the views can’t be beat. A few of our favorite stops on the VA wine trail are Chester GapChateau O’brienBarrel OakLa Grange and Rappahannock Cellars. If a trip to the local wineries isn’t already on your calendar this fall, it’s not too late to start planning!

2. Outdoor Running

SKORA Running shoes

Fall provides the PERFECT outdoor running weather. With our busy schedules, running is a quick and efficient workout fix.  Now that the temps are finally beginning to drop and the mornings and evenings are feeling pleasantly brisk, a quick outside run is not only good exercise but a refreshing part of our days. This year, we discovered SKORA, a new running shoe company which has managed to make running look and feel even better! Their super comfortable shoes do an excellent job balancing a “barefoot” running experience with a natural feel while looking so good even a non-running fashionista would wear them!

3. S’mores

Throwing on a cozy sweater and snuggling up with our hubbies by the outdoor fire is a weekend staple for us. When the weather cools down, we find ourselves having more and more date nights in.  And what can be more romantic than s’mores by the fire? They are classic, delicious and always a crowd pleaser. Take a note from us and don’t mess up a good thing when crafting this gooey treat. Stick with the basics and don’t try to get too creative, nothing beats the original.

4. Plaid Shirts

If you are going to add one thing to your wardrobe this fall, make it something plaid.  We are seriously going a little coo-coo and can’t get enough plaid this fall. Rails is one of our favorite brands for plaid shirts.  You really can’t beat how incredibly soft they are. Seriously – you need to feel them to believe how supple they feel on your skin. And if you want to get crazy (and on-trend) with a Rails shirt, layer a little plaid on a little more plaid, like this rad chick did.

5. Football

Something about seeing that giant Game Day chips and salsa tower next to the beer display as you walk into the super market just screams fall. The joy of gathering together with friends and family, cheering on your team and, of course, indulging in football-shaped tater skins gives us a sense of satisfaction at the end of every week. Unless our team loses. Then it’s a whole other story.

Fall comes and goes so quickly, make sure to enjoy the treats and activities while they last. Before you know it, we will all be stuck inside in our matching PJ sets watching the snowflakes gracefully float outside our windows. And wishing for spring.

We would love to hear whether you love fall and what you are looking forward to most – Tell us your favorite fall activities in the comments!
