This post is long overdue but you know life happens and all of a sudden your baby is 5 months old. I’m sure many of you have already seen Waylon’s western themed nursery on the gram but it deserves is own place on our blog too. I had a vision for Waylon’s nursery as soon as we picked out his name. I knew it had to be a bit country, a touch modern with a twist of south west.
I found the Buffalo wallpaper first and designed the rest of the room around it. The wall makes a huge statement on its own, so I wanted the rest of the room to be neutral but in a fun way. Since we were leaving our queen bed in the room, Pendleton was the obvious choice for bedding to match the vibe. We then picked the rug, crib and nursing chair from pottery barn kids. The crib and rug are more modern to match the vintage dresser that we already had and converted into his changing table.
A boy named Waylon can’t have a nursery without a vintage style record player and the entire Waylon Jennings album collection. Perfect for setting the vibe during bath time and bedtime. We also took the letters from the photo wall at his shower and placed them above the closet for a personal touch. Inside the closets, we had shelving put in and double hanging racks for more storage and hanging room for clothes. The matching baskets elevate the look of the shelves and hide his toys and extra gadgets without looking cluttered.
One of the biggest decisions we made for the nursery was the monitor. We wanted something that gave us peace of mind at night and something we could access while we’re away too. The Nanit camera was the obvious choice for both of those reasons and also we love that the camera pops off and can be used on a portable stand for when he was in the bassinet in our room. It also comes with smart sheets and a breathing band so you can track his breathing while sleeping. We love this feature!
Another item that we had to have was the Newton mattress. We heard great things from friends about this mattress and knew it was something we needed because of its breathable technology. Anything to help prevent SIDS in the first year is key and this mattress is one thing you can do to help yourself sleep a bit sounder at night. The interior design is like ramen noodles, so when their face is pressed down on the mattress, they can breathe through it. I highly recommend this mattress!
Two more items that we love are the hatch sound machine and hatch smart changing pad. The sound machine is great to put Waylon to sleep and has lots of different settings for sleep sounds and colors for the night light. We love this changing pad because it’s sturdy but also is a scale! We love being able to weigh him and mark his milestones in between doctors visits, also was nice to make sure he is staying on track with his growth. It connects through an app on your phone and you can log all the monthly weigh-ins!
Let’s be real, these photos don’t reflect what the nursery looks like on a daily basis. Hell, they were taken at 6 weeks (shout out to Torch Pictures) when he was still living in our room. Now at 10 months old there are toys and books now strewn about and a foam playmat over the carpet for crawling and learning to walk but that’s the reality and fun part of parenting. It’s not picture perfect but it’s so fun watching him grow and change. Thanks for being a part of our journey!
