Pumpkin Decorating + Boozy Milkshakes

Halloween has long been a favorite holiday of ours. Dressing up in costume mixed with unlimited amounts of candy and favorable weather are a few of the things that get us excited about this time of year. Since we already have our costumes picked out and ready to go, the only thing missing were the pumpkins! So we threw together a little pumpkin decorating party at Natasha’s house where we made a boozy milkshake and put your creativity to the test. There are so many options when it comes to pumpkin decorating, whether it be carving, painting, using glitter and ribbons or even adding funky accessories to dress them up, the options are really endless. There is no wrong way to decorate a pumpkin, sometimes they turn out silly and other times they turn out to be a work of art but all that really matters in the end is that you enjoy the process. What goes better with pumpkin decorating than booze?? We are pretty sure it helps with the creative process as well. We crafted up a boozy milkshake that we enjoyed while we got our hands dirty. Fall ’14–Fashion or Fail?

Do you guys remember a few years ago, when everybody—no, literally everybody—was rocking the Juicy Couture velour tracksuit? You know what I’m talking about? The one with “JUICY” emblazoned on the backside? That is, if you were “hip” enough to grab the original. Later the trend came to encompass bottoms that advertised “PINK,” “RUTGERS,” “ED HARDY” or assorted other brands on the asses of America. That tracksuit was fashion poison, and of course I had one two a few. In assorted colors. That I wore with Uggs. Because of course I did…and when I walked down the street I felt in style, trendy, hip—generally awesome. Until I one day I realized that, regardless of how “in” they were and what celebrities were wearing them, velour pants looked awful on me. Especially, (but not exclusively) velour pants that could comfortably fit five 4-inch tall letters with room to spare across my rear end. But if we’re honest with ourselves, that happens every season, right? A trend catches fire and produces the “it” item. If you’re reading this, it’s probably because you love style and fashion. Maybe you love dresses, especially? Or specifically Diane von Furstenburg dresses? Can you remember when you fell in love with those dresses? Do you recall what started you on the sometimes heartbreaking and often bank account breaking fashion road? Here’s my story: I was raised in the racks of Loehmann’s (R.I.P.). This was back in the day – before we became spoiled with outlets and eBay. This was when Loehmann’s was the only (magical!) place you could buy designer clothes at a bit of a discount. Thousands of items hung squished together on enormous racks, but because it was so heavily discounted, the brands didn’t want their presence there known so designers made the store cut the tags out of their clothes. Imagine for a moment, walking into a store filled with both good stuff and garbage, and not having any obvious clues about what was Chanel and what was Anne Klein. Of course, I was six so I just ran headfirst into enormous piles of sweaters and giggled. But for my mom – the most stylish woman I’ve ever met –shopping was therapy.
