Begrudgingly, I’m back from my week long stint in paradise and boy is it hard adjusting to the frigid cold after being spoiled with tropical temperatures and no to-do lists. I was just starting to get used to laid back island life and boom it’s back to reality. But none the less, I am so grateful to have spent seven glorious days with my family and friends in my favorite place, Vieques, Puerto Rico. Vieques holds a special place in my heart. We first traveled to the little island back in 2011 to celebrate my Dad’s 60th birthday and have returned four times since. It was love at first site for me, not only because the of the quick 3 hour flight from DC, favorable weather and gorgeous beaches but because this island has been pretty much been unscathed by tourists. When I am looking to get away, unwind and truly go on “vacation” I want to be as far away from people as possible. Travel Tips: Vieques

Everyone has a place. A place that they daydream about, that they yearn to visit year after year, a place where you feel at peace with yourself and can escape into total relaxation mode. Well that place for me is a Vieques. Vieques is a little tiny island off the coast of Puerto Rico that is free of cruise ships, chain hotels and everything annoying that you find in tourist infested destinations. This is exactly the reason my husband and I have returned to this little piece of paradise three glorious times. I was almost hesitant to write this article because I kind of didn’t want to share my hidden gem with the world. What if my place get over-ridden with tourists? What if huge hotels and chain restaurants come in and spoil it’s beauty and the low key lifestyle that Vieques represents? And then I remembered that I am only publishing this on my little blog, not broadcasting it on the world news. So I hope my secret is safe with you ;). Lucky Dog Friday: Meet Frida

Every Friday we will be featuring a different rescue dog that is looking for their forever home. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is near and dear to my heart because that is where I found my sidekick Blanqui! Blanqui was our 6th foster with Lucky Dog and we are what you call a “foster fail”, this is when you adopt your foster dog. Our little Puerto Rican firecracker has brought so much joy and laughter to our house, we couldn’t imagine a day without her. Thank you Lucky Dog for helping us find each other! I hope that you will have a similar story to share one day. Meet sweet Frida! She is a 4-year-old Shepherd mix who was found wandering the streets of Puerto Rico! In honor of our Puerto Rican dog, I thought I would feature her first. She has had a rough life, and would love to finally find a home where she can get the love that she has never had. She is a full-grown gal at 50 pounds and is out of the crazy puppy stage, but still with a lot of energy. She is great with other dogs (as long as they are not […]
