What goes together better than peas and carrots or peanut butter and jelly? Crochet and Coffee, obviously. Well I’m partially kidding but honestly, I don’t think there is a thing out there that wouldn’t pair well with iced coffee in the summer time. This summer has been pretty darn hot so when I need a pick me up, iced coffee is definitely my go to. I love a good iced coffee from Starbucks but when I am out in DC, I love discovering boutique coffee shops because usually their cold brew cannot be beat. My ahhmazing photographer, Emma Weiss, and I stumbled upon The Coffee Bar near Logan Circle during a recent shoot and I instantly fell in love. Not just for their genius brews but also for their electric and quaint vibe. A must try if you are in the Logan Circle neighborhood! I have been loving crochet pieces this summer and snagged this crochet shift dress at a recent Zara sale because the price could not be beat (under $40) and it was perfect for those end of summer parties/happy hours. I have been wearing it non-stop since I purchased it and will probably be wearing it until to fall if […]

When Sarah and Michelle told me I should contribute a post on fall fashions under $100, I thought, “Umm, well…like, actual good clothes that cost less than $100? Umm…” Which is not to say that I’m some rich snob who only wears $800 shoes. I don’t own any $800 shoes. C’mon, my last name isn’t Rockefeller! (And my husband reads this blog. Hi honey!) Ahem. So, no of course all of my clothes aren’t expensive, but I think I’m a savvy shopper: I find good deals, I tend to buy off-season items on sale and I never set out to shop for, say, a party dress. I see a dress that I love, I buy it and I find a party later. And I always find party worthy of a good dress. That said, I believe in investing in quality. When everything in your closet is well-made and looks good on, you always look good. So after I negotiated my baseline to $150….ish, I set out looking. I’m not going to insult our good readers’ intelligence by sending you to Forever 21 or Old Navy. You know they sell cheap affordable clothes. That tend to fall apart after a season. I’ve been […]

Every weekday morning I stand in front of my closet, coffee mug in hand, completely baffled about what to wear to work. When I finally make a decision (at the last possible moment) I leave behind a disaster zone—clothes and hangers cover nearly every inch of my closet, my bedroom and sometimes even my dog. I have a problem. I know that. But I don’t think I’m alone. I can’t be the only one questioning every outfit choice I make: Is this sweater too casual? Am I showing too much skin? Does this dress seem formal or does it cross into cocktail? The list goes on and on. Not only does my indecision make me late, it means I come home from a long day’s work to a room that’s a mess. Does this sound familiar? We need help! To help what is, and is not, appropriate in the work environment, we asked an expert, Belle of Capitol Hill Style, a “fashion blog for professional women who don’t want to sacrifice their sense of style for professional success.” I think we’re all familiar with DC’s terrible reputation for being too conservative and boring. If you live here, you know this is sometimes far […]
