We partnered up with South Moon Under, one of our favorite local shops back home in DC, to share with you our favorite hang out spots in our home towns.
We love South Moon Under for one simple reason: it’s your one stop spot to shop. No matter what the occasion you are dressing for, they really do have it all. Enough to dress me all over Los Angeles while I show you where I spend most of my leisure time!
Now I could share with you some of Los Angeles’s hottest tourist spots, but that would be too easy and you’re probably already aware of them. I want to introduce you to the places that may not always be on the maps but definitely a must stop while you are in the area and of course suggestions on how to dress for the visit.
Venice is one of my favorite weekend hang outs for the simple reason that there is so much to do. They have the cutest restaurants, coffee shops, stores and of course there’s the beach. Similar to South Moon Under, there is no need to go anywhere else. My favorite kiosk coffee shop located right at the beginning of Abbot Kinney is Blue Bottle. Their customary drip coffee bar is heaven on earth and just what I need in hand to start my day shopping on Abbot Kinney Boulevard. This historical destination has it all including unique art galleries, prestigious wine shops, fine dining, a fun night life and of course lots and lots of apparel shopping. My fave.
Like I said, the great thing about Abbot Kinney is that this street has it all including a thriving night life. You won’t find me lounging at clubs with bottle service too often, or at all. But you will find me enjoying good company, good food and good drinks in the cutest surroundings. My favorite spots include the Butcher’s Daughter for dinner and drinks followed by handcrafted beers and a large selection of wine at The Otheroom Bar. If you have tried Butcher’s Daughter in NY then you know how insanely amazing this place is. If not, please put this on your to-do list! They serve up local fresh fruit and vegetables with a daily changing menu. I love their fresh pressed juice cocktails – healthy and delicious!
But the main attraction in Venice is the beach of course. I mean, the beach life did play a major role in our decision to move to LA because it really is an endless Summer over here. Venice may not be my all time favorite beach but it’s definitely the most convenient to get to. That and one my favorite BYOB restaurants, Cha Cha Chicken, is walking distance from where we park at the beach. After several hours of basking in the sun and body surfing the waves, the most chill way to end the perfect Summer day is to grab a 6 pack and order a large plate of coconut chicken, empanadas and veg out to a relaxing Jamaican vibe. Did I mention dogs are welcome? I love when I can share my favorite California experiences with my fur baby, Louis. I think he may love it here more than me!
