NYFW has come and gone, and for those who have barely had time to scroll through WWD or Vouge.com to see what is in store for us next year, don’t worry, we have you covered. We have compiled a list of the 10 most important trends to come for spring/summer 2016, so you don’t have to lift a finger.
We saw nothing was groundbreaking walk the runways this season, actually, most of these trends have been recycled from last season and years past. But what did have us excited was the progression towards relaxed and easy dressing. It seemed that most designers were hinting to take a load off and to dress in looks that were more causal with amped up comfort and less rigid. Some took this trend to the extreme and suggested pjs as street-wear…don’t believe us, scroll down for the deets.
NYFW: 10 Trends You Need To Know About For Spring 2016
Hippie Chic
Alice and Olivia, Mara Hoffman, BCBG, Altuzarra
The 70s Revival is a trend that isn’t going anywhere. Think flares, rose colored glasses, long braids and tie dye prints.
Fringe
Christian Siriano, Tory Burch, ALC, Alice and Olivia.
If you haven’t yet jumped on the fringe bandwagon, now is your time. Looks like the fringe trend is here to stay for another season, so feel free to stock up now.
Print Blocking
DVF, Betsey Johnson, BCBG, Tory Burch.
Florals for spring…groundbreaking right? But these cheeky florals that are reminiscent of our childhood Cabbage Patch Kids have gotten a much needed update. Mismatched florals were scattered all over the runways, so don’t be afraid to mix prints for spring.
Ruffled Necklines
Alexander Wang, Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Zimmerman.
These frilly necklines for spring and summer were shown on opposite sides of the spectrum – low and straight across the shoulders or high and ruffled to the chin. You decide how you will wear the ruffle trend.
Bare Shoulder Dresses
Mara Hoffman, Altuzarra, Michael Kors, Alice and Olivia.
Get ready to bare your shoulders next spring and be sure to load up on the SPF because these off the shoulder styles were seen everywhere. Defiantly a trend you will want to watch!
Strings Attached
Alexander Wang, Philip Lim, DKNY, Alexander Wang.
We all know fringe has been a thing but the loose strings walking down the runways at Derek Lam and Philip Lim had us guessing. They may come off strange at first glance but as the models walked down the runways it began to make more sense. This undone and edgy touch was seen on everything from sweaters to jumpsuits and outerwear.
Halter Necks
Mara Hoffman, Mara Hoffman, Tommy Hilfiger, Betsey Johnson.
High necklines were all the rage at Mara Hoffman an Tommy Hilfiger. Had us feeling pretty nostalgic.
Pleats Galore
Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, Christian Siriano, Altuzarra.
We aren’t talking about your old catholic school girl kilt here, these pleats are way too cool for school. We saw pleats of all shapes and sized, from angular knife-pleats to the classics this hem style ruled the runways.
Netting and Mesh
Alexander Wang, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Herrera.
Netted gowns and sexy mesh separates are coming to replace the sheer panel illusion trend. Loved seeing these relaxed and sporty styles take the runways.
Sleep Chic
Altuzarra, Calvin Klein, Thakoon, Alexander Wang.
This is a trend you might want to get out of bed for but luckily you can leave your pjs on. Robes and relaxed pj inspired styles were seen all over the NYFW runways, so be prepared to take this look to the streets come spring.

September 23, 2015 at 11:50 amI didn’t care for the sleep chic trend, but I loved how the other trends were interpreted. I also loved the V Neck trend that I saw everywhere as well. Beautiful roundup.
