It’s no secret that I love things that get me sweaty. That includes working out, hot foods and steamy weather. But one thing that might surprise you is that I despise long distance running, even though the sweat-equity is super high on this one. I would rather lift weights, sprint, row, jump rope, pretty much would rather do anything other than go on a long distance run. So when I signed up for the Baltimore 10 miler, my husband thought I had lost my mind. While the verdict is still out on that one, I am still lacing up my running shoes and training for my first long distance race ever.
While I do feel very physically fit and my body is ready for almost anything, I don’t think my mind is quite there yet. It’s the mental game that really intimidates me about long distance running. How do you keep yourself moving for 10 miles without breaking to walk? What do you think about? I feel like I will be bored after mile 1! Help!
So along with training my brain for this race, I am also training my body by increasing my runs each week, adding more track work into my workouts and also focusing on recovery work. I have found from experience that training (for anything) is super important but so is the way you take care of your body before, during and after. That is why I have teamed up with Nava Health and Vitality Center to help me on my race journey.
What I love about Nava is that they have everything I need to prep and recover for my race, all in one spot. They offer chiropractic treatments, massage, acupuncture, IV therapy, hyperbaric oxygen Treatments and much much more. The way they approach a runner or athlete is much different than any other facility I have visited. They really pay attention to your current health, your goals and then help you put together a comprehensive plan to help you achieve peak performance by preparing and repairing your muscles and joints. With their passion for improving wellness and achieving life-changing results, their distinguished group of doctors, therapists, and health experts have created a welcoming environment for athletes or any kind of patient trying to better their health for that matter!
I have just begun my journey with Nava and will be sharing my experiences with you all along the way. So far I have completed a comprehensive wellness screening and had my first chiropractic appointment which felt amazing. It also doesn’t hurt that their offices look more like a spa than any chiropractor I have ever visited! Make sure to tune into our Insta Stories for behind the scenes of my weekly visits and then check back here in a couple weeks for progress on my race training! Can’t wait to share this exciting and terrifying journey with you!
Nava has four convenient locations in the DMV area including D.C., North Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Columbia, MD.
Have any suggestions to help get me ready for this 10-mile race? Would love your advice! Please leave a comment below!

I firmly believe that once you get past the 5-mile mark, you can keep on going and not think twice. Just put in your headphones and make it to mile marker 5. Good luck!
